Donald Arthur Beaudin

Donald Arthur Beaudin, 82, of 41 Melrose St. died Friday of pancreatic cancer at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, where he had been a patient for a month. Born in Adams on June 25, 1921, son of Arthur David and Anna Milde Beaudin, he attended Adams schools and was a 1939 graduate of the former Adams High School and a graduate of Wentworth Institute in Boston. An Army veteran of World War II, he served five years in the European and Pacific theaters. He was a member of the first U.S. Occupation Forces in Hiroshima and provided photographs he took of the damage to that city and its inhabitants to international organizations studying the effects of the atomic bomb. Mr. Beaudin was employed by GE in the power transformer division's test section for 42 years, retiring in 1987. He was a shop steward for Local 255, IUE AFL-CIO. He was a communicant of the Parishes of Notre Dame-St. Thomas and of St. Stanislaus, and a member of Taconic Country Club in Williamstown, where he served on the greens and tournament committees. He was a former member of the Adams Lions Club and Knights of Columbus Council 230. He and his wife, the former Margaret Mary McLaughlin, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary July 26. They were married in St. Thomas' Church by the Rev. James A. Lahey. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, James A. Beaudin of Bennington. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Donald A. Beaudin will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 10 in St. Thomas' Church by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Visiting hours for family and friends will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 at McBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 2-8 Liberty St. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be offered to the Notre Dame/St. Thomas' Meals Program, P.O. Box 231, Adams, MA 01220, or the Second Chance Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 620, Shaftsbury, VT 05262, or in care of the funeral home. Survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins.
