Lydia E. Russo

Lydia E. Russo, 82, of 250 Dalton Ave. died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center's Skilled Nursing Facility. Born in Biviara, province of Calabria, Italy, on Sept. 17, 1918, daughter of Pasquale and Caterina Blefari Sorbara, she attended schools in Italy. She emigrated to Pittsfield at the age of 10 and attended local schools. Mrs. Russo was employed by the former Stratton Coat Factory as a seamstress for 15 years and by GE for three years as a press operator in the power transformer department. She retired in 1979. She was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and enjoyed sewing. She and her husband, Rocky J. Russo, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary Oct. 14. Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Anthony R. Russo of Middlefield, Richard P. Russo of South Deerfield and Edward R. Russo of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Patricia A. Caparelli of Lake Forest, Calif.; a brother, Frank Sorbara of Osterville; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Predeceased by two sisters, Concetta Perry and Rose LaPenta. The funeral will be Thursday, March 29, at 8 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, March 28, from 4 to 7.
