Constance McGregor

Constance McGregor, 74, died Monday at the home of her daughter, Elena C.M. Tucker. She had extensive careers in both politics and nursing. Born in Hartford, Conn., on May 31, 1926, daughter of Harry P. and Helen Psinakis Leonard, she was raised in Pittsfield and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. She also resided in Worcester and Albany, N.Y. She also graduated from Union University School of Nursing and attended Russell Sage College, Siena and College of St. Rose for postgraduate degrees. In her nursing career, she was a special nurse consultant for the Bureau of Long Term Care, assisted with the planning and development of research programs and served as a public health nurse. Health and Human Service secretaries appointed her to the Advisory Council on Nursing Education, Needs Assessment Institute panel and the Maternal and Fertility Drug Advisory Committee. Ms. McGregor served as president of the New York Federation of Republican Women and was vice president of the National Federation of Republican Women. As a faculty member for the National Republican Campaign School, she lectured extensively across the United States. She was constituent aide to New York state Sen. James Seward and served in the Office of Medical Fraud Investigation by appointment of Gov. George Pataki. She was a leader in presidential campaigns as well as many local campaigns. Ms. McGregor was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. She was a docent for the Glimmerglass Opera. In New York City, she served on the Board of Governors of the National Women's Republican Club. Other memberships include Am-erican Association of University Women Glimmerglass Opera Guild and Board, Greek Amer-ican Women's Network and the Hellenic Union Club. She is listed in the Who's Who in American Politics. Besides her daughter of Pittsfield, she leaves a son, Bruce C. McGregor III of St. Louis, Mich.; a sister, Pauline M. Leonard of Pittsfield; a brother, Dr. Peter H. Leonard of Columbus, Ind.; and a grandson. Funeral services will be Friday, March 30, at 10:30 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, followed by services at 11 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Fr. Michael Stearns, Presbyter, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at Dery Funeral Home will be Thursday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to: Constance L. McGregor Memorial Fund, in care of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 73 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Ms. McGregor also leaves a son-in-law, Michael Tucker, a daughter-in-law, Dr. Veronica McGregor, and beloved grandson, Alexander Nicholas McGregor.
