Josephine Mary Cernauskas

Josephine Mary Cernauskas, 87, of 121 Brooklyn St. died Monday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on Jan. 20, 1916, daughter of Adam and Marcella Bajorin Cernauskas, she attended local schools, graduating from the former St. Joseph's High School in 1932. She received her degree in nursing from the former St. Luke's School of Nursing in Pittsfield in 1936. A registered nurse, Miss Cernauskas was employed by NARH for many years, retiring in 1983. She also worked as a private-duty nurse for several years. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Francis' Church. She leaves a sister, Sister Mary Benedicta Cernauskas, Sisters of St. Joseph, of North Adams, with whom she made her home, and a brother, the Rev. Daniel E. Cernauskas of St. Malachy's Church in Tamarac, Fla. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Josephine Mary Cernauskas, RN, who died Nov. 3, 2003, will be celebrated Friday at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 9:30 until the time of the Mass at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for the St. Francis' Church Building Fund through the funeral home. She was predeceased by two brothers, Adam and John Cernauskas, and five other siblings in infancy.
