Peter Robert Bassi

Peter Robert Bassi, 64, of 21 Highland Ave. died yesterday morning at home as a result of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease. Born in Adams on Jan. 9, 1939, son of Carmen Macchia Bassi of Williamstown and the late Joseph Bassi, he attended local schools, including the former Adams High School. He served in the Marines during the Cuban missile crisis and was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Mr. Bassi had been employed by GE in Pittsfield as a licensed crane inspector, retiring in 1996 after 32 years of service. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas. He was a member of the Adams Turners and the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Forest Park Country Club and enjoyed playing at several other courses as well. He and his wife, the former Nancy Anne Rice, would have celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on Nov. 27. Besides his mother and wife, he leaves a son, Michael J. Bassi of Aspen, Colo.; two brothers, Joseph Bassi of Spofford, N.H., and Michael Bassi of Adams, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Peter Robert Bassi will be Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 11:30 at AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 12:30 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parishes of Notre Dame-St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Stanislaus Kostka. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the ALS Association or to VNA and Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home. He also leaves his daughter-in-law, Michelle, and two grandchildren, Jacob and Chiara Bassi of Aspen; several brothers- and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
