Peter Francis Oparowski

Peter Francis Oparowski, 78, of 52 Greylock Road died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Adams on June 23, 1925, son of Tytus and Mary Kogut Oparowski, he attended schools there. Mr. Oparowski was the owner and operator of Peter's Trucking in Lanesboro for more than 20 years, retiring in 1988. Prior to that, he had been employed with Fahey Beverage in Pittsfield for many years. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Pittsfield. An avid gardener, he sold the vegetables he grew. He enjoyed working outdoors and around his home. He and his wife, the former Irene F. Laston, would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on Nov. 18. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Patricia F. Piekos of Lanesboro; four brothers, Theodore Oparowski and Matthew Oparowski, both of Adams, Frank Oparowski of Brookings, Ore., and Casmir Oparowski of South Hadley; two sisters, Cecelia Laston of Lanesboro and Helen Fox of Pittsfield, and a granddaughter. A son, Robert P. Oparowski died Feb. 19, 2001. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Peter Francis Oparowski, who died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, will be Saturday, Nov. 15, at 8:15 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at Holy Family Church by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Friday, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and Related Disorders in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. Mr. Oparowski was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters. He leaves his granddaughter, Pamela Piekos.
