Vincent S. Sitkus

Vincent S. Sitkus, 89, of Westerhook Road, South Egremont, died Saturday at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Born in Marlin, Pa., on Oct. 28, 1914, son of Matthew and Mary Sitkus, he graduated from East Hartford (Conn.) High School and Hartford Institute of Accounting. He moved to South Egremont in the early 1980s from Manchester, Conn. An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a staff sergeant in the North African and European theaters. Mr. Sitkus was employed by Travelers Insurance Co. in Hartford for 20 years, retiring in the late 1970s. He also had worked for The Hartford Courant and Kaman Aircraft Co. He was a communicant of All Saints' Church in Housatonic and, more recently, of St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington. He was a member of the Travelers Club and an enthusiastic sports fan. He also enjoyed gardening and outdoor work. He and his wife, the former Regina Boldyga, would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary Feb. 17. They were married in Hartford. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Paul Sitkus of Nashua, N.H.; a daughter, Michelle Ardini of Needham, five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Vincent S. Sitkus, who died Dec. 6, 2003, will be celebrated Thursday, Dec. 11, at 11 at St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington by the Rev. Daniel Papineau, MIC, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Housatonic. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 3 to 6 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. He was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also leaves five grandchildren, Andrew, Gregory and Judith Ardini, and Mary Anne McCormack and Melanie Sitkus, and his great-granddaughter, Kaylee McCormack.
