William P. Swan

William P. Swan, 86, formerly of Rannapo Road, Ashley Falls, died Sunday at the Venice (Fla.) Rehab and Health Center, where he had resided for two months. Born in Northfield, Vt., on Dec. 22, 1916, son of Lewis and Rose Willey Swan, he attended schools there. He moved to Ashley Falls in 1948 and to Florida in 1987. Mr. Swan was employed at the Pfizer plant in Canaan, Conn., from 1964 until retiring in 1981. He also had worked on the Malnati and Fitch farms in Ashley Falls for many years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Church. A cancer survivor since 1983, he enjoyed carpentry, stone and cement work, baking and handcrafts. He and his wife, the former Elaine Perry, built their Ashley Falls home, including a wall of hand-picked stone that took them seven years to complete, and a vacation cabin in Roxbury, Vt. He also had remodeled two mobile homes in Florida. His wife, whom he married Jan. 16, 1937, in Vermont, died April 8, 1992. He leaves two daughters, Beatrice Zamperini of Sheffield and Margaret Francis of South Venice, Fla., three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for William P. Swan, who died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, will be conducted Friday, Dec. 12, at 3 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Albert Dagnoli. There will be no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in Mr. Swan's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home, 3 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Burial will be in the spring in Calvary Cemetery, Northfield, Vt. Survivors include three grandchildren, Debbie Hewins of Norfolk, Conn., Teri Walsh of Ravena, N.Y., and Carla Cross of Sheffield; five great-grandchildren, Jason, Rebecca, Dustin, Jessica and Andrew, and two very special friends, Linda and David Hayward, South Venice, Fla.
