John Bordeau

John Bordeau, 88, of 57 South St., formerly of 198 Columbia St., Adams, died Friday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Toledo, Ohio, on Feb. 4, 1915, son of Fred and Mary Gamache Burdo, he moved to Adams as a child. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Bordeau was employed by Pfizer Inc. in Adams for more than 10 years, retiring in 1973. Before that, he worked for the former Brightwater Paper Co. in Adams, the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Co. as its blacksmith and the former Adams Auto Co. salvaging and replacing parts. Because of a childhood illness, he was unable to attend school much of the time and received no formal education. This did not stop him from learning many trades, however. He started out as a farmer, then worked for various craftsmen, becoming proficient as a carpenter, auto mechanic, welder and bricklayer. He built three of his own homes and renovated several others. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas in Adams. His wife of 58 years, the former Mary N. Aubin, died Jan. 3, 2000. They were married June 21, 1941, in Notre Dame Church by the Msgr. Joseph T. Smith. He leaves two sons, Joseph E. Bordeau of Cheshire and John F. Bordeau of Adams; a daughter, Paula Gamache of Adams; a sister, Mildred LeTourneau of Adams; 12 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for John Bordeau, who died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, will be Monday at 9:15 from AUGÉ-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Notre Dame Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Survivors include two daughters-in-law, Stephanie Bordeau and Barbara Bordeau, a son-in-law, Donald Gamache, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold N. Bordeau, and a sister, Lillian Thiel.
