Denise E. Filkins

Denise E. Filkins, 42, of 150 Barton Hill Road died Wednesday at home. Born in Dalton on March 3, 1959, daughter of Bernice Mongue Filkins and the late Ronald C. Filkins, she was a 1977 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School. She also attended Elms College. She was the manager of Your Pet's Supermarket in Pittsfield for the past 15 years. She had also worked as a waitress and hostess at the former Coachlight Restaurant in Pittsfield, and at R.C. Filkins Inc. as an office manager. Miss Filkins was a member of First Congregational Church of Dalton, where she served as chairwoman of the deacons and was a volunteer in its Green Gargoyle Gift Shop. She was also a member of the Rotary Club of Dalton. She was an avid NASCAR fan and a supporter of the Berkshire Humane Society. She enjoyed cooking, needlework, and collected bells and crystal. Besides her mother, of Dalton, with whom she lived, she leaves two brothers, Lawrence R. Filkins of Adams and Peter J. Filkins of Cheshire; and her paternal grandmother, Charlotte Filkins of Pittsfield. Services will be Saturday, March 31, at 9:30 at the First Congregational Church of Dalton, concelebrated by the Rev. Robert Kyte, pastor, and the Rev. John McKinstry, retired UCC minister. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. Following the burial, the family wishes to invite everyone back to the parlor at First Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at First Congregational Church in Dalton or to the Berkshire Humane Society, both in care of the funeral home, 890 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. Miss Filkins will be lovingly missed by her sisters-in-law, Susan Filkins and Rita Filkins and her nieces, Malina and Isabel Filkins, and several aunts and uncles.
