Neil Matthew Gillooly

Neil Matthew Gillooly, 59, of 1100 Mohawk Trail died Sunday at home following a long illness. Born in North Adams on April 28, 1944, son of Neil F. Gillooly of Blairsville, Ga., and the late Eileen Toomey Gillooly, he attended the former St. Joseph's elementary and high schools. A Marine Corps veteran, he enlisted in 1961 and was honorably discharged with the rank of lance corporal in 1967. He also was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Mr. Gillooly was employed as a construction worker for several area contractors, retiring in 2002. He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a member of the Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also had been a member of Laborers Union 473 for many years. He and his wife, the former Gayle F. Siciliano, were married July 23, 1989. Besides his father and his wife, he leaves four daughters, Susan Gillooly of Auburn, Melanie Licht of Clarksburg, Sarah Gillooly of Pittsfield, and Jessica Dubie, all of North Adams; two stepdaughters, Toni Clifford and Maria Clifford, both of North Adams; two brothers, Christopher Gillooly of North Adams and Stephen Gillooly of Williamstown; two sisters, Deborah Silo of Odenton, Md., and Vanessa Morris of Canton, Ga., and eight grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Neil Matthew Gillooly, who died Jan. 11, 2004, will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, North Adams. A priest from St. Francis of Assisi Church will officiate. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Eileen Barrett Foundation or the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., 01247. Survivors include sons-in-law Tim McNeil of Auburn, Brian Licht of Clarksburg and Chad Dubie of North Adams.
