Theodore Joseph Ziemlak

Theodore Joseph Ziemlak, 80, formerly of 15 Edward Ave., died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center. He had resided at Craneville Place in Dalton since November 1999. Born in North Adams on Feb. 6, 1923, son of Joseph Ziemlak and Sarah Luzynski Ziemlak Klimetz, and stepfather Frederick Klimetz, he attended local schools. He had been a resident of Pittsfield for many years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He had been employed by GE in the maintenance department from 1948 until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Ziemlak was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed fishing. His wife, the former Verna M. Lapp , whom he married Dec. 9, 1948, died Sept. 13, 1999. He leaves a son, Joseph M. Ziemlak of Cheshire; a daughter, Irene L. McMahon of Pittsfield; two stepsons, Francis J. Butler of Dalton and Vernon J. Butler of Germany; three brothers, Leo Ziemlak of Raleigh, N.C., Donald Klimetz of the state of Washington and Frederick Klimetz of California; two sisters, Viola Jackson of East Greenbush, N.Y., and Olga Flanders of Santa Clara, Calif., eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Theodore J. Ziemlak, 80, who died Jan. 18, 2004, will be Thursday at 1 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., with the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor of Sacred Heart Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours will be Thursday from noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or the Pittsfield Boys' and Girls' Club in care of the funeral home. Mr. Ziemlak is lovingly survived by his eight adored grandchildren, with whom he enjoyed spending time, Michael, Robert and Jason Ziemlak, Shannon and Andrew McMahon, and John, Jennifer and Brian Butler, and by his two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sisters, Irene Ziemlak Reid, Joan Ziemlak Cronin and Auriella Ziemlak Grogan. He was also predeceased by his stepfather, Frederick Klimetz.
