Justine G. Simmons

Justine G. Simmons, 83, of 720 Greylock St. died Thursday at her home. Born in South Lee on Oct. 12, 1920, daughter of Frederick and Alice Muller Merwin, she moved to Housatonic as a child and was educated in Housatonic schools. She graduated from the former Searles High School in 1938. She worked during the 1970s for the Penny Saver as a graphic designer. Before that she worked at the Monument Mills in Housatonic in the designing department before moving to Lee in the 1940s. She enjoyed spending summers at the family's cottage on Goose Pond. She leaves her husband, James S. Simmons, whom she married on June 9, 1940. Other survivors include one son, Jeffrey J. Simmons of South Lee; four daughters, Martha A. Peyron of Stockbridge, Deborah L. Beligni of Housatonic and J. Susanne Simmons and Bonnie J. Simmons, both of Lee; one sister, Arlette Reed of Lee; 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. A son, James J. Simmons, died in 1985. FUNERAL NOTICE -- There will be a private service and burial for Justine G. Simmons, who died Jan. 15, 2004, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, frinds wishing may make donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238, which is handling arrangements.
