Alfred George Bartini

Alfred George Bartini, 83, of Main Street, Housatonic, died Saturday evening at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was the former owner of Shirl Toolin Bartini Insurance Co. in Housatonic Born in Lee on Aug. 4, 1920, son of George W. and Dosolina Angelini Bartini, he was a graduate of Lee High School, where he was a member of the golf team. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served with the 25th photographic reconnaissance squadron in the South Pacific theater in Australia, New Guinea, Indonesia, Philippine Islands, Okinawa and Japan. He owned the insurance company until retiring in 1988, when he sold it to his nephews. Before that, he was manager of the Home Gas plant from 1945 to 1962. He was a past commander of the Murphy Leary Post 298 American Legion in Housatonic and enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening and photography. His wife, the former Shirl Toolin, whom he married Dec. 1, 1945, in Corpus Christi Church in Housatonic, died Feb. 18, 1997. He leaves a nephew, Marc Membrino, with whom he made his home; two sisters, Jane Membrino and Madeline Hickey, both of Lee, and a brother, George D. Bartini of Lee. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Alfred G. Bartini will be celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at 10 at Corpus Christi Church in Housatonic by the Rev. Anthony Jutt. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Constance A. Ingegni of Pittsfield, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Agnes O'Laughlin and Rena McCusker. Donations in memory of Alfred Bartini may be made to either the Berkshire Humane Society or Corpus Christi Church through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
