Ida E. Strickland

Ida E. Strickland, 83, formerly of South Main Road, died Saturday at Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Great Barrington, where she had resided for three years. Born in Otis on Jan. 5, 1921, daughter of Chester and Ida Bliven Snow, she was educated in schools there and was a 1939 graduate of Lee High School. From 1956 to 1964, Mrs. Strickland was employed as a cook at Otis Consolidated Schools. She also worked winters at Otis Ridge Ski Camp and summers at Camp Nawaka, until 1976, and at Camp Hak-Me-Tac in Otis. During the 1950s, she was a nurses' aide at New Boston Nursing Home in Sandisfield. During the flood of 1955, she and her husband, Louis E. Strickland, walked to the nursing home, a distance of six miles from their home in Otis, to help evacuate patients. Her husband, whom she married Sept. 2, 1940, died April 16, 1995. She leaves a son, Raymond L. Strickland of Otis; three daughters, Jodi E. Moretz of Otis, Linda S. English of Escondido, Calif., and Tammy A. Struthers of Torrington, Conn.; two brothers, Lawrence A. Snow and Chester B. Snow, both of Otis; a sister, Edith E. Lewis of Otis; 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Sally Ann Strickland, died in 1953. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ida E. Strickland will be conducted Wednesday at 11 at First Congregational Church in Lee by the Rev. Bert W. Marshall, pastor. Burial will be in the spring in Otis Cemetery. Visiting hours will be tomorrow, Feb. 10, from 6 to 8 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the Berkshire Humane Society or the Otis Ambulance Squad of the Otis Fire Department, both in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth M. Rowley, on Jan. 28.
