Robert B. Rogers

Robert B. Rogers, 65, of 840 East St. died Friday evening at home. Born in Springfield on July 21, 1938, son of Charles L. and Gladys E. Wylie Rogers, he was a 1957 graduate of Holyoke High School. He earned a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Alaska in 1965 and later studied at the universities of Pittsburgh and North Carolina. He moved to Lee in 1972. A longtime teacher, Mr. Rogers taught math at Hillcrest Educational Centers in Lenox until retiring in 1992 because of poor health. He also had taught at several colleges. After retiring, he spent several years as a hospice volunteer. An avid fan of high school sports in both Lee and Holyoke, he coached in the Lee Babe Ruth League during the 1970s and the Southern Berkshire American Legion baseball team in the 1970s and ‘80s. He leaves his wife, the former Marylou Kansa, whom he married in May 1967; a son, Martin Mann Rogers of Pittsfield; a daughter, Connie Rogers Curry of Fairbanks, Alaska; two brothers, Charles L. Rogers of West Springfield and David O. Rogers of Cedar Bluff, Ala., and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Robert B. Rogers, who died Feb. 6, 2004, will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Lee Youth Association or the Christian Center in Pittsfield in care of KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. He had a strong personal connection with the people of the village of Minto, Alaska.
