Gene Marie Daigle

Gene Marie Daigle, 78, of 3235 Main St. died Tuesday evening at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. She had been a resident of Becket since 1940. Born in Elmira, N.Y., on Nov. 30, 1925, daughter of Frank and Mary L. Baker Lockwood, she was a graduate of Chester High School. She had been employed as a sales clerk in the linen department at the former England Brothers Store in Allendale for 20 years, retiring in 1988. Prior to this, she had worked at the former Becket Basket Shop. Mrs. Daigle was a communicant of St. Matthew's Church in Becket and a member of its Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Becket VFW Auxiliary 11054. She was a Red Sox fan and enjoyed fishing. Her husband, Fulbert J. Daigle, whom she married Dec. 31, 1944, died Oct. 25, 2001. She leaves three sons, Ronald P. Daigle and Philip J. Daigle, both of Becket, and Larry J. Daigle of Pittsfield; a daughter, Brenda J. Podolski of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Gene Marie Daigle, who died Tuesday, March 9, will be held Wednesday, March 17, at 11 at St. Matthew's Church in Becket with the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in North Becket Cemetery in the spring. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton. Mrs. Daigle is also survived by her sister-in-law, Claire Mooney, and her dear friend, Frances Snow.
