George C. Hubbel

George C. Hubbel, 74, of 20 Willow St. died Sunday evening at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 14, 1926, son of Huelat N. and Lillian Roberts Hubbel, he attended local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School. Mr. Hubbel was employed by GE as an inspector for 40 years, retiring in 1987. He attended St. Joseph's Church and enjoyed playing golf at the GEAA. He was a former member of Elks Lodge 272 and enjoyed tending his garden. While attending art school as a young man, he developed a lifelong interest in paintings and woodcarvings of birds and small animals. His wife of almost 50 years, the former Ruth B. Brooks, died Aug. 10, 1997. He leaves a son, Edward G. Hubbel of North Adams; four daughters, Katherine E. Pisani, Karen A. Dimanche, Susan C. Winters and Lynn M. Whittaker, all of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Hubbel. Calling hours at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be Tuesday from 4 to 7. The funeral will be Wednesday at 8:15 from the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the National Stroke Association in care of the funeral home.
