Blanche Zwiercan

Blanche Olive Zwiercan, 97, formerly of 43 Montgomery Ave., died yesterday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility. Born in Adams on Feb. 6, 1904, daughter of Joseph and Josephine Dugal Dionne, she attended parochial schools there. Mrs. Zwiercan was employed for many years by the former Eaton Paper Co., where she was responsible for preparing salesmen's sample cases. After retiring, she cared for former state Rep. and Mrs. Thomas Wojtkowski's children for several years. She was a communicant of St. Charles' Church and a member of its Rosary Sodality. She enjoyed hosting family reunions and parties at her home, and tending to her garden and raising prize strawberries. Her husband, Frank Zwiercan, died June 7, 1971. She leaves a daughter, Joan Fitzgerald of San Diego; a brother, Russell Dionne of Adams; a sister, Roma Merkie of Adams, and three grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Charles' Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 8. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fitzgerald Scholarship at St. Joseph's High School.
