Francis P. Reddington

Francis P. Reddington, 82, a native of Pittsfield, died Sunday at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 23, 1918, son of Frank and Delia Mahoney Reddington, he graduated from St. Joseph's High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from Holy Cross College, a master's degree from the former North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, and a certificate of advanced studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. An Army veteran of World War II, he was also a member of the Army Reserves until 1977, when he was honorably discharged as a lieutenant colonel. He was the superintendent of the Wilbraham School District since 1966 and retired in 1984. Previously, he was superintendent of the Williamsburg School District. Mr. Reddington was a communicant of St. Cecilia's Church and a member of the Wilbraham Country Club. He leaves his wife of 60 years, the former Pauline Forni; two sons, Sean F. Reddington of New Hampshire and Kevin J. Reddington of Monson; three daughters, Patricia Hyland of Berkeley, Calif., Frances Reddington of Missouri and Michele Reddington of Wilbraham; two brothers, Charles Reddington of California and John Reddington of Pittsfield; a sister, Lucille Hopley of Arizona; nine grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. Services will be held Friday, May 4, at 8:30 from SAMPSON'S CHAPEL OF THE ACRES FUNERAL HOME, 21 Tinkham Road, corner of Wilbraham Road, in Springfield with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Cecilia's Church. Rites of Committal will be Friday at 2 at the Bourne National Veteran's Cemetery in Bourne. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Cross General Scholarship Fund, c/o Mary Moran, 1 College St., Worcester, MA 01610; or to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
