Dorothy M. Betti, 93

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Dorothy M. Betti, 93, of 227 Franklin St., Apt 2B, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at North Adams Commons. Born in Lafayette, N.Y., on Dec. 23, 1911, daughter of Elwin and Laura Jessie Rolfe Tyler, she attended schools in North Adams and graduated in 1929 from Drury High School. She graduated from the former North Adams Normal School in 1931, and earned a bachelor's degree in education from its successor, North Adams State College. Mrs. Betti taught for 22 years at Johnson Elementary School, retiring in 1969. Prior to that she taught in a one-room school house in Halifax, Vt., and at Brayton Elementary School for two years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for several years, and was active in committees and clubs, including the Friendship club. Her husband, Benjamin F. Betti, whom she married Oct. 2, 1959, in Clarksburg, died in 1973. She leaves a daughter, Joan Southgate Haskins of North Adams; a brother, Robert Tyler of North Adams; five grandchildren, Nancy Levesque, Colleen Bethoney, Steven Haskins, Thomas Haskins and John Haskins; a son-in-law, Kenneth Haskins, and 12 great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Dorothy Belle Southgate, died in infancy. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Richard, Theodore and William Tyler. FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Betti will take place Friday at 11 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA Home for Funerals, West Chapels, with the Rev. Susan Stewart, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorial donations are suggested for First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
