RICHARD H. SPANIOL

Richard H. Spaniol, 86, formerly of 78 Lebanon Ave., died yesterday at the Center at Laurel Lake in Lee. Born in Pittsfield on March 23, 1914, son of Harry and Elizabeth Connors Spaniol, he was a 1932 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also graduated from the former Berkshire Business College. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was employed in auto sales all of his professional life, and worked for the former Berkshire Auto and the former O'Connell Cadillac. He was employed by Johnson, Ford, Lincoln, Mercury for 14 years and retired in 1981. Mr. Spaniol was a communicant of St. Mark's Church. An avid golfer, he was a former member of the Pontoosuc Lake Country Club. He was also a member of the Exchange Club and the United Commercial Travelers. His wife, the former Frances T. Kellar, whom he married Nov. 19, 1960, in Holy Family Church, died Jan. 14, 1991. He leaves several nieces and nephews. Spaniol, Richard H., age 86, of Pittsfield, died Dec. 27. He was predeceased by his sisters, Gertrude S. Kane and Eleanor S. Johnson. He is survived by his nephews, Edward T. Kane Jr., Gary A. Johnson and Arthur C. Johnson III; and his nieces, Karen L. Marcel and Sally J. Harvey. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, today, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mark's Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME.
