DEAN A. NEWTON

Dean A. Newton, 75, of 105 Bailey Road died yesterday at home. He operated Newton's Maple Syrup for many years. Born in Lanesboro on Sept. 14, 1925, son of Dean E. and Nettie Whitman Newton, he attended schools in Lanesboro. During World War II and the Korean War, he served in the Army and in the Air Force. He was employed as bulldozer operator at Hutchinson Sand & Gravel from 1946 to 1974 and at D.R. Billings Inc. from 1974 to 1987. Mr. Newton was a member of Local 98 Operators and Engineers Union and the Maple Producers Association. He enjoyed farming, gardening, cooking and woodworking. He leaves his wife, the former Judith McKnight, whom he married May 21, 1960; a son, Glenn Newton of Lanesboro; a daughter, Bonnie Newton of Lanesboro, and two grandchildren. The funeral for Dean A. Newton will be conducted Wednesday at 2 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield by the Rev. Jeff Black, pastor of New Life Community Fellowship. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 to 7. Among survivors are his grandchildren, Erica and Nathaniel Newton, and several nieces and nephews. If friends desire, donations are suggested to the Lanesboro Volunteer Fire Department or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires.
