Ronald Gladu, 74

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Ronald Gladu, 74, of Donbray Road, died Saturday, May 21, 2011, at the Red Stone Rehabilitation Center in East Longmeadow. Born in Adams on April 29, 1937, a son of Armand and Irene Bedard Gladu. He attended Adams schools and graduated from the former Adams Memorial High School. He then became employed with the former Adams Supermarkets and was manager of their Great Barrington store for many years. In 1985 with his brother Richard, he purchased the Simmons Furniture Store in Adams, which he continued to operate for several years after the untimely death of his brother. His last place of employment was for the Bears Furniture Store in Pittsfield where he worked for a short time before he retired. Mr. Gladu was a former member of Troop 38 of the Boy Scouts in Adams, was a former member of the Adams Alert Hose Co. and was also a longtime member of the National Guard Company M in Adams. He loved playing practical jokes and was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriot fan. He most enjoyed cooking holiday meals for his family. Survivors include daughters Carrie Young of Beverly Hills, Fla., Brenda Newton and her husband, William, and Kimberley Quill and her husband, Douglas, all of Monson; stepbrother Richard Beauchemin and his wife, Joyce, of Adams; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Armand and Richard Gladu, sister Eileen Baker, step-sister Jeannette Ford and stepbrothers Bernard and Albert Beauchemin. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Ronald Gladu will take place Thursday, May 26, at noon in St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire, celebrated by the Rev. David Raymond, pastor. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours will be at the Trottier Pringle Funeral Home, 6 Summer St., Adams, on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home.
