CHESHIRE, Mass. – The Hoosac Valley Athletics Department Wednesday announced the hiring of Jeremy Levesque as the school’s new football coach effective immediately.

Levesque succeeds Marshall Maxwell, who guided the Hurricanes the past two seasons, as he served as an assistant on his staff. Levesque will begin his duties on Aug. 24 when the Hurricanes can begin preseason practices.

“Jeremy has been a top assistant within our program the last several years and we’re fortunate to have a coach with his commitment and passion to lead this program,” Athletic Director Jeff Puleri said. “As with any coaching change, there will be challenges, but our hope is to surround the Hurricane cooperative football program with stability and coach Levesque will bring that to Cheshire.”

Last season was the first under the three-school cooperative agreement with students coming from the host school along with Mount Greylock and Drury High School. Hoosac Valley provided a full JV schedule as well and saw roster numbers swell into the mid to upper 40s for the first time in a decade.

Levesque will inherit a program with a storied history that is coming off of back to back MIAA Division 8 Playoff appearances. Last year, Hoosac Valley went 8-2 overall before losing to eventual state champion Randolph in the quarter-final round. It was the second straight season the Hurricanes fell to the eventual state champion.

His main role last season was as the team's offensive coordinator.  Hoosac Valley put up 30-plus points on seven different occasions last year.

Levesque and the Hurricanes will open their season this September. Hoosac Valley will be at Wahconah to kick things off in Week 1. The Hurricanes will then have back to back home tilts against Taconic and Monument Mountain in Weeks 2 and 3 before starting league play.
