Strong Second Half Gives Drury Second Straight Win
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Drury boys' soccer team scored three goals in the second half for the second straight game on Friday, allowing the Blue Devils to pull away for a 4-1 home win over Mohawk.Second-half tallies by Kodey Bryce, Cameron Lesure and Ryan Ouimet helped Drury (2-7-1) break up a 1-1 tie at halftime and give the Blue Devils their second straight win of the season. After scoring 10 goals through its first eight games, Greg Caproni's club now has eight goals to show for in its last two matches.
"This was another big win for us," Caproni said. "I was glad to play Mohawk because they are a very similar team to us. It was an exciting game. My players are starting to see the game faster and faster every time they step out on the pitch. Now, we set our sights on our next game, which will be a little faster pace. We will see if we can keep up ball movement as well as we have this week.
"I am pleased with the wins this week. My boys deserve it for all the hard work they put into this beautiful game."
The Warriors struck first on Friday, getting a goal in the 3rd minute of play when Mike Shuetze scored off of a corner kick from Alex Rice. Senior Jacob Groves tied the game for Drury a minute later, however, scoring off the first of Connor Meehan's two assists on the day. Bryce then gave the hosts a 2-1 lead seven minutes into the second half, knocking in a rebound off of a corner kick.
Lesure and Ouimet added insurance goals later in the half, while senior defender Isaiah Pantoja helped Devils' keeper Joseph Liporace (one save) shut down Mohawk for the final 77 minutes of the game. Drury outshot the visitors 13-2 in the game.
The Blue Devils return to Berkshire County League action with home game against Taconic at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
