WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The defense of the McCann Tech boys' soccer team was a step behind on Friday, allowing Westfield Voc. too many good looks at the net in the Tigers' 5-1 win at home.

It was the second straight rough game for the Hornets' defense, which has allowed 14 goals in the past two matches. Westfield Voc. was just a step quicker to the ball on Friday, scoring most of their goals on rebounds or deflections in the box. Dmitriy Slepanchuk and Mike Brut both found the back of the net in the first 10 minutes of the game to help the hosts jump out to an early lead.

McCann (5-5) kept the match close in the first half until Alex Makarchuk scored the first of his three goals on the day three minutes before halftime. Makarchuk added two more strikes in the second half before Hornets senior Chad Raimer got the visitors on the board by scoring on a penalty kick in the 66th minute. It was Raimer's team-leading 12th goal of the season.

Senior P.J. Laliberte stopped four shots in goal for the Hornets, who next host Smith Voc. at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
