PITTSFIELD, Mass. — After a brief three-game winless streak, the Mount Greylock boys' soccer team won its third match in a row on Saturday, receiving a goal from senior Nathan Majumder in each half to claim a 2-0 road win over Pittsfield.

Majumder has been a force for the Mounties (12-2-1) in the past three games, scoring six goals over that span to raise his team-leading total to 20 this season. He gave Greylock a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, taking a pass from sophomore Dan Flynn at the 18-yard line and beating Generals' keeper Harrison Rapant (four saves) with a low shot to the left.

Pittsfield (6-7-2) kept it a one-goal game until the 62nd minute, when Majumder dribbled all the way up from half field and scored with a shot into the far panel. Mounties head coach Blair Dils said Flynn not only played a part in both of Majumder's goals on the day, but he also put forth a great effort on the defensive side of the ball as well.

"Dan Flynn doesn't get a lot of recognition, but he was a defensive force today and his efforts led to both of Nathan's goals," Dils said. "He works terribly hard and gives us good depth.

"The boys' effort was strong today and the result was convincing if not dominant. Nathan once again showed why he's one of the best around with two pretty goals. One on one, I'm not sure if there are any better players in the league, if not Western Massachusetts, at the Division 2 and 3 levels."

Greylock held a slight 8-6 edge in shots in the game, but the hosts had their chances as well by earning a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Senior goalie Sean Houston was solid in net, however, making four saves to earn his eighth shutout of the year.

"Sean was very sturdy in net today," Dils said. "Pittsfield gave us problems early on. They were able to break us down on the left side, but we made adjustments and did a better job of holding down their scoring opportunities in the second half.

"The wind was a factor in the game. We had it at our backs in the second half, and it made a big difference. Sean was able to stretch the field with his punts, and their goalkeeper was limited in how far he could stretch our defense."

The Mounties still have three more North Division games to end the season, starting with a game at Wahconah at 6 p.m. on Monday. The Generals next play at Ludlow at the same time on Monday.
