GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Monument Mountain Regional High School boys soccer team scored two first half goals and held off Mount Greylock in the second half for a 2-1 victory on Monday.

The Mounties (3-1-1) built a 19-8 advantage in shots, including a 13-4 edge after half-time, but the only goal for the visitors came early in the second when Sam Dils set up Grant Raphael.

"Our three midfielders did a great job of sustaining our attack by forcing turnovers and making strong runs through the middle," Mount Greylock coach Blair Dils said. "Grant worked hard to earn his goal. He's raised his game tremendously since last season and is now one of our key players."

Dils said overall the game was frustrating for the Mounties, who gave up a couple of key scoring chances off turnovers.

"We showed great resolve in the second half and really took the game to Monument," he said. "They cleared two balls off the goal line that would have tied the game. Dave Majetich had a very good look at the goal with 1 second left but a back made a great play to save the day for them."

Cal Filson made four saves for Mount Greylock.

The Mounties will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday when Lee visits.
