Reber, Stevens Named Athletes of the Week

This week's iBerkshires.com/Bedard Bros. Athletes of the Week have been scoring in buckets for their South County teams.

Mount Everett sophomore Jadah Stevens has scored 35 goals in 16 games for the Eagles this fall.

This week, she wrapped up the regular season by scoring all five of her team's goals in its last two games.

Stevens also leads Mount Everett with five assists this season.

Although Mount Everett did not make the Western Massachusetts Class D Tournament that begins this week, the Eagles are 7-7-2 and in line to get a spot in the Division 5 State Tournament if they can stay at .500.

Mount Everett has two games left to play, starting Tuesday at home against Hampden Charter, a team the Eagles already beat by scores of 3-2 and 8-0; in the teams' last meeting on Oct. 16, Stevens scored four times.

Jaydee Reber scored just once for the Lee High football team on Friday night.

But it turned out to be all the offense the Wildcats needed in a Suburban North showdown against South Hadley.

That's because of the stifling defense Lee played against a Tiger team that came in averaging 43 points per game.

Reber helped set the tone with a tackle for a 5-yard loss as Lee handed South Hadley a three-and-out on its opening possession. He then capped Lee's first possession with a 4-yard touchdown run to open an eventual rout.

He rushed for 131 yards on the night, but it would have been 132 yards and a pair of TDs had Reber not chosen to slide at the 1 yard line after a 55-yard run late in the fourth quarter with Lee up 44-0.

"The slide?" Reber said afterward. "I wanted to get my cousin in the end zone."

And that is just where fellow senior Blake Hoff ended up on the very next play of a 52-6 Senior Night win that pushed Lee to 7-0 this fall.

The Wildcats have one more regular season game left, Thursday at Ware (3-3), but as the second-ranked team in the Division 8 going into Friday's game, Lee stands a pretty good chance of making the 16-team State Tournament field.
