Pittsfield Hands Drury its Second Straight Defeat
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Drury girls' soccer coach Molly Meczywor knew her team faced a tough task playing two North Division teams on the road this week. Turns out, she was right. After dropping a 3-0 decision to Monument Mountain on Tuesday night, the Blue Devils suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Pittsfield on Thursday afternoon. Since opening the season with a 3-0 win over Lee early last week, Meczywor's squad has now gone three straight games without finding the back of the net.
"We started the game playing very well, but got on our heels and PHS took over," Meczywor said. "Unfortunately, we lost a great deal of 50/50 balls and that transitioned into their goals. [Goalkeeper] Ali Tatro made some beautiful saves, both in the air and on the ground. I thought Mariah Ferrara and Cori Ghidotti played very well throughout."
Senior Katie Bradley scored a pair of goals in the first half of the game to help give the Generals (3-1) a 3-0 lead at the break. Drury (1-2-1) hung in the game until Rachel Hunt widened the lead with a goal in the 69th minute. Samantha Rapant then closed out the scoring by striking again for Pittsfield with just over three minutes left in the game.
Tatro finished with eight saves for Drury, which next hosts St. Joe's at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
