NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Scoring a hat trick usually is cause for celebration. It's starting to become old hat for Mary Nguyen, however, especially after the senior forward netted her fifth hat trick of the season in the McCann Tech girls' soccer team's 6-0 win over Westfield Voc. on Friday.

Nguyen collected her 23rd, 24th and 25th goals of the year against the Tigers, giving her 115 points for her career and leaving her three points shy of tying the school record of 118 set by Heather Malloy in 2007. The Hornets, meanwhile, picked up their fifth shutout of the season, improving their overall record to 10-1 and a perfect 8-0 in Tri-County League play.

It was McCann's second win of the year over Westfield, who fell behind quickly on Friday by allowing an own goal two minutes into the game. Nguyen then added to her team's lead by scoring twice in the final 10 minutes of the first half, finding the back of the net on assists from junior Eileen Zajac and freshman Monique Martel.

Martel then set up another goal with 90 seconds left in the first half, this time finding senior Alex Lincoln for her fifth goal of the season to give the hosts a 4-0 lead at the break. Zajac and Nguyen added a goal each in second half for the Hornets, who held a 12-3 edge in shots and a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks in the match.

Goalie Alex Wood and Abbi Luczynski combined to make three saves to goal to earn the shutout for McCann. Megan Linicky stopped five shots in a losing effort for the Tigers.

The Hornets return to action on Tuesday with a game at Commerce at 4 p.m.
