NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — At first, it was Mary Nguyen who was doing most of the scoring for the McCann Tech girls' soccer team this season. A few more Hornets joined the party on Friday, however, as McCann scored four goals in each half to secure a dominating 8-0 home win over Commerce on Friday.

Senior captain Alex Lincoln scored a pair of goals on her birthday, the first one coming unassisted just five and a half minutes into the game. The Hornets (3-0) then increased their lead on an own goal in the 14th minute before Nguyen scored twice in a seven-minute span, giving the hosts a 4-0 lead with 17 minutes left in the first half. Those two goals were the 94th and 95th points of Nguyen's McCann career, leaving her only five shy of soccer's prestigious 100-point club.

Freshman Monique Martel scored her second goal of the season midway through the second half for the Hornets, while classmate Jordan Reinherdt celebrated her first career varsity tally in the 83rd minute of the game. Senior midfielder Alexa Durant also helped out the McCann offense, chipping in with two assists.

The Hornets held a 20-5 advantage in shots, with junior Alex Wood and freshman Abbi Luczynski combining to make five saves to earn the shutout. Kerry Williams battled between the pipes for the Red Raiders, finishing with 12 stops.

McCann return to action with a tough Tri-County League test against Renaissance on Tuesday. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
