Hurricanes Blank Wildcats to Stay Unbeaten
ADAMS, Mass. -- It wasn't a flawless performance, but the Hoosac Valley girls' soccer team didn more than enough to remain undefeated and earn its third shutout of the year in a 2-0 win over Lee at Renfrew Field on Monday.Senior Miranda Gajda gave the Hurricanes (3-0-2) a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the game by scoring off of a penalty kick after Wildcats goalie Cam Biasin (10 saves) was called for a slide tackle in the box. Lee (1-5-1) didn't go down easily, though, keeping the game close despite being outshot 15-8 in the contest. Blair Mahar's club finally put the game away in the 78th minute, however, as sophomore Alyssa Bush settled a ball from classmate Courtney Hayer and scored into the far corner of the net.
"We came out a little flat and sluggish in the first half and just couldn't seem to find the passing combinations that have led to our successs so far this year," Mahar said. "We picked it up in the second half a bit and came away with the win, but Lee certainly made us work for it."
Freshman goalie Megan Richardson needed only to make five saves to earn the shutout. Hoosac next plays at St. Joe's at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
