Generals, Eagles Looking to the Future
SHEFFIELD, Mass. – The final week of the 2025 volleyball regular season began with two teams that already are building for 2026.
Shyanne Mungin put down nine kills and served five aces Monday to lead Pittsfield to a three-set win over Mount Everett.
Gionnah LeVardi had a double-double with 10 aces and 14 digs in the 25-13, 25-16, 25-13 win.
The Generals (6-10) snapped a five-match losing streak, but with one regular season game left on the schedule plus a pair of “crossover” games against other non-qualifiers for the Western Mass tournament, it’s looking like Pittsfield will be on the outside looking in when state tournament bids are awarded.
But coach Katara Mullett’s squad is using the opportunities it has left to gain valuable experience for the future.
“It’s no surprise, it’s no mystery that we have a really, really tough league,” Mullett said. “We do every year. The Berkshire County teams are always very strong. And we prepare for it the best we can.
“I’m definitely looking forward [to the future]. I have a lot of talent next year to choose from in developing a varsity team. We’re going to have 17 upperclassmen returning next year. So I have some tough decisions to make, but I’m able to give a few of them a chance to show what they’ve got prior to tryouts next season.”
Mullett leaned on her bench, including some junior varsity callups, after the Generals were able to take control of the varsity match early.
Mount Everett (1-13) hung tough in the opening stages of the first set, tying things up at 10-10.
But a five-point run on LeVardi’s serve gave Pittsfield a working margin, and it went on to the 12-point win.
In Set 2, Pittsfield scored eight points on Kayla Crupi’s serve to build a 12-2 lead. Krupi, who finished with seven aces, started the run with an ace, and it ended with a kill by Mungin to give the Generals a 10-point margin.
LeVardi, one of just three seniors on Pittsfield’s squad, served five more aces in her last time at the service line, pushing Pittsfield’s lead to 22-9 in the third set before Mullett subbed in Lizzy Klepetar, who got the margin to 14 points before the Eagles earned a side out.
Bella Brady served a couple of points for Mount Everett to pull within 11 at 23-12, but the teams traded sideouts before Gracie Gavin’s kill ended the match for Pittsfield.
Aaliyah Rodriguez had two aces to lead the Eagles, who also got an ace from Brady, the lone graduating senior on the squad.
“Obviously, it’s a very young team, but we’ve been able to maintain a good attitude,” Mount Everett coach Rob Cohen said. “The beginning of the season, they got down on themselves. But over the past few weeks, they’ve been able to maintain a good, positive attitude and help each other.
“I’ve got two upperclassmen on the entire team. I’ve got seventh graders playing varsity at times.”
Mount Everett finishes the regular season on Wednesday at home against Duggan.
Pittsfield travels to Bennington, Vt., to play Mount Anthony on Wednesday.
