TYNGSBORO, Mass. -- Despite a long trek to central Massachusetts and the unfamiliar surroundings of an artificial turf field, the Wahconah High School girls lacrosse team acquitted itself well in its first-round sectional touranment game on Tuesday.

Wahconah (11-5-2) dropped a 14-7 decision at seventh-seeded Tyngsboro (10-8) despite three goals from Emmy Cote and two from Jordan Budaj.

McKenna McIlquham and Morgan Francese each scored a goal, and Kate Bachli made 12 stops for the Wahconah-McCann Tech cooperative team.

For Tyngsboro, Haley Casey scored six goals, and Brianna Day-Lewis made 15 saves.

"Overall a great season for the girls," Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said. "We have a lot of underclassmen playing and this experience will definitely help them in the long run.

"Our goalie Katie, did a fine job and she is a freshman. Six out of the seven goals were scored by freshmen, so if they keep working hard next year looks good."

Tyngsboro moved on to meet No. 2 Grafton (14-4) in the Central/Western Massachusetts Division 2 quarter-finals.
