WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Zach Gentle scored three goals and set up three more to lead the Westfield boys lacrosse team to a 12-9 win over Mount Greylock on Wednesday.

The Bombers, the second-ranked team in Western Massachusetts, led 10-5 at half-time but survived an onslaught from the Mounties, who suffered just their second loss of the season and their first against an in-state opponent.

Michael McCormack (three goals, two assists) scored a one-handed goal, and his brother, eighth-grader Sean McCormack, scored while being sandwiched between three defenders in a four-goal third-quarter for Mount Greylock.

Matt Malloy scored twice, and Cole Hughes, Jonah Kelley and Niko Santore had a goal apiece for Mount Greylock.

Cal Filson went the distance in goal, stopping 15 shots, and Mount Greylock's defense played tough despite missing one of its stalwarts, Matt Hogan, due to a conflict with an AP exam.

Daivon Clement, Santore and Cummings stepped up in the back to help keep Mount Greylock in the game.

The Mounties will learn their next opponent on Friday when the Western Mass tournament seeds are released.
