WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Tara Shastri earned a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, and the Mount Greylock girls tennis team swept doubles play to earn its first victory of the season.

"It was nice to get our first win, and moving Miranda Dils to first doubles helped us pull out a close match," Mount Greylock coach John Jacobbe said.

Dils teamed with Katie Mick to win, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Oriana Van Slycke and Josie Dalsin had an even tougher battle at second doubles but prevailed, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) to clinch the team win.

At first singles, Shastri defeated Taylor Turner, 6-2, 6-1.

"Tara played her usual great game after a tough day [Tuesday] versus the same opponent," Jacobbe said.

Pittsfield got wins from No. 2 Sharanya Ganesh and Kaytlin Barcus.

In the boys match, Will Nolan did not drop a game in picking up a win at No. 2 singles, and Nyein Soe downed Evan Dempsey at No. 1, 6-1, 6-2.
