LONGMEADOW, Mass. -- Top-seeded Longmeadow earned a 5-0 win over Pittsfield on Wednesday in the Western Massachusetts Division 1 boys tennis quarter-finals.

The Lancers won in straight sets in all five matches, but Pittsfield coach Daniel Sullivan was proud of the effort he saw from his lineup, which included Adam Quinto, Brian Lavinio and Cole Masiero at singles and the doubles tandems of Liam Fitzgibbons/Tom Rindfuss and Andrew King/Brian Brophy.

“We played them for the second year in a row, and had a much stronger showing this year,” Sullivan said. “All the matches were hard fought with the Longmeadow boys coming out ahead by winning the key points late in games.

“Our boys really showed themselves well and earned many compliments from opposing players and their coach Pat Magowan.”

The loss ended the Generals’ season at 13-2.

Longmeadow (15-1) moves on to the sectional semi-finals against East Longmeadow.

“Next year, Pittsfield will look to build on our successful season this year and continue to seek out matches against better opponents to help us improve and prepare for the DI tournament,” Sullivan said.
