NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The defending state champion Drury Blue Devils bowling team lost its first match Tuesday evening since the 2012 season.

Drury, who is No. 2 in the county right now, faced the No. 1 team, Pittsfield High School, at Mount Greylock Bowl in North Adams, and the Generals came away with a 16-15 win.

“The only players who bowled above their average were Kayla [Field] and Austin [Davine],” Drury coach Todd Yeaton said. “So we had a rough night.”

Davine bowled a 147 in his first match and a 212 in his second. Field turned in scores of 239 and 170 and had the best series (409) among girls recorded on Tuesday.

The top scores on Tuesday were recorded by Monument Mountain's Tom Hankey Jr., who had the high game (265) and high series (502).

For Pittsfield; Tom Kosla bowled a team high of 195 in the first match and Chris Gaylord scored a 194. The Generals scored a total of six points in the first match to Drury’s five points.

In the second match the Devils scored seven points to Pittsfield’s four. Zach Yeaton for Drury had a team high of a 225 and Davine had a 212.

Where Drury fell short was in the Baker matches; only winning 1 of 3. Pittsfield won the other 2 and earned 6 points from those matches.

“Our Baker’s matches went tough, we only took one out of the three and those are important they’re three points apiece,” Yeaton said. “We just had a rough night, we were off and struggled through and through, but we’ll bounce back.”

With the win, Pittsfield took a seven-point lead over Drury for first place in the county.

The Devils will face Lenox next week. Pittsfield bowls against Monument Mountain.
