Quinn Strikes Again In Win Over Monument

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — When the Drury baseball team limits its mistakes in the field, it can be one of the top teams in Berkshire County.

The Blue Devils proved that on Wednesday, getting another strong pitching performance from senior Max Quinn and some clutch hitting from classmates Robert Jutras and Joel Giorgi on their way to a 5-2 home win over Monument Mountain.

Quinn won his second start in a row, this time over the top team in Berkshire County. The Drury starter shook off two unearned runs in the first two innings and sealed the win by pitching five scoreless frames to end the game. Quinn allowed just three hits on the day, striking out six and walking one batter to improve his record to 3-2 this season.

"This was a huge win against the best team in the county," Blue Devils head coach Al Marceau said. "Quinn, Jutras and Giorgi were the story today. Quinn pitched a great game, going the distance without giving up an earned run. Max put the team on his back today and threw one of the best games I've seen all year. You got the opportunity to watch a senior leader and captain step up and will his team to victory."

After falling behind 2-0 in the second inning, Drury (7-8) rallied back to tie the game with two runs in the fourth. Jutras, who went 2 for 3 with a run scored, came up with a two-run single to even the score in the fourth. The Blue Devils then went ahead for good in the fifth, using a single by Giorgi (2 for 4, two RBIs) and a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Ouimet to get a runner in scoring position. Giorgi then advanced to third on a wild pitch before Quinn drove him home with a sacrifice fly.

Giorgi then came through with some important insurance runs in the sixth, doubling home a pair of runs to give Quinn a three-run cushion to work with.

"Offensively, we really worked the count, and Giorgi and Jutras came up with big hits against one of the top pitchers in the county," Marceau said. "It was a great team effort."

Junior Alex Bush also went 2 for 3 with a run scored for Drury, which next hosts Taconic at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
