Taconic Baseball Opens Up Late Lead in Win over Mount Greylock

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Taconic baseball team Monday scored five times in the sixth inning to break open a close ballgame and earn a 7-0 win over Mount Greylock in the Western Massachusetts Division 3 tournament.
 
Brendan Stannard went 3-for-3, and Leo Arace tripled for top-seeded Taconic (18-3).
 
Christian Womble went the distance to earn the win on the mound, striking out 12 and scattering four hits.
 
Joe Jones threw 5-⅓ strong innings for Mount Greylock (11-10). He allowed just three earned runs before turning the ball over to Evan Sheridan, who threw ⅔ of an inning of scoreless relief.
 
Michael Britten and Anton Lazits each doubled for Taconic, which moves on to Wednesday’s sectional semi-finals at Westfield State University against Southwick (15-7).
