Top-Seeded Pittsfield Survives in Sweet 16
PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Morrie Fried and Kevin Smith each hit a two-run double in a nine-run first inning for the Pittsfield baseball team, which Wednesday went on to a 9-7 win over Newburyport in the Division 3 State Tournament Round of 16.
Jackson Almeida went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in a seven-hit attack for the Generals.
Pittsfield used six different pitchers to get through the win.

“Not quite the way we drew it up but a good team win against a tough ball club,” Pittsfield coach Drew Pearce said.
Top-seeded Pittsfield (20-3) moves on to host No. 8 Hanover in the state quarter-finals.
