Hoosac Valley Boys Down Chicopee Comp at MCLA
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Cam Odvar scored five goals, and the Hoosac Valley boys lacrosse team used a 7-0 third quarter to pull away for a 14-6 win over Chicopee Comprehensive on Monday on MCLA’s Shewcraft Field.
After a slow start to the game, Brody Rzeszutek scored in the fifth minute to give the Colts a 1-0 lead.
Odvar answered with an assist from Owen Taylor to tie it, and Brady Auger (four goals, one assist) and Adan Wicks scored goals 33 seconds apart in the 11th minute to give the Hurricanes 3-1 lead.
Despite dominating possession and outshooting the visitors, 7-3, in the first quarter, Hoosac Valley had just that two-goal margin to show for it.
Hurricanes coach Jacob Anderson-Hall said that slow starts have been a theme for the 11-1 Canes.
“I honestly think they just don’t realize they have a game until the second quarter comes around,” Anderson-Hall said. “That’s their big issue. It’s still not a whole four quarters of lacrosse, but the final two quarters of every game, they look really good.
“It’s something we’ve still got to work on.”
Hoosac Valley opened the second quarter with a 4-0 run.
Kamarion Kastner got things started with his first goal of the afternoon on an assist from Taylor, and Odvar scored three straight to make it 7-1 with 2 minutes, 20 seconds left until half-time.
Anderson-Hall said it was Odvar’s turn to take the lead finishing on a team with a lot of players who can put the ball in the net.
“It’s great to see all the guys can get it done on any given day, but Cam’s a great player,” he said. “He works really hard. If we get that out of him every game, we’re gonna go far.”
After Chicopee Comp keeper Christopher O'Connor made seven first-half saves and the Hurricanes hit at least one post in the first 24 minutes, Hoosac Valley was much more efficient on offense in the third quarter.
Odvar added one more. Auger scored three times, and Tatro, Kastner and Nate Lapinski each scored a goal to make it 14-2 and send the game to running time in the fourth quarter.
Wylan Beaulieu scored a pair of goals for the Colts in the final 12 minutes, and Noah Aubrey slipped a shot past Hoosac keeper Max Griffin (eight saves) to finish the scoring.
“It was a team effort,” Anderson-Hall said. “Everyone got a little something in today. They looked like a complete lacrosse team. Our twos and threes got in. They looked just as good as our ones.
“I was proud of the way we played today.”
Hoosac Valley heads to South County on Wednesday evening for a rematch against Lenox.
