NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The McCann Tech softball team showed no signs of rust after having a week off in between games on Monday. The Hornets jumped on Central right out of the gate, scoring runs in each of the first four innings on their way to an 11-3 win at home.

Junior Erika Ziemba pitched well, allowing one earned run while scattering four hits to earn her second win of the season. She struck out five batters and walked only two in a full seven innings of work. McCann (7-4) scored six runs over the first four innings before Central came back with three runs in the top of the fourth frame. The Hornets didn't allow the Golden Eagles any momentum, however, as they stung back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Eleven different McCann players collected hits on the day, led by senior Amanda Cariddi's 2 for 3 day with two runs scored and two RBI. Sophomore Katie Hancock also knocked in a run to go along with two hits, while classmate Alex Lincoln came through with an RBI double.

"I was very pleased that the girls came out motivated and played as well as they did," Hornets head coach Robin Finnegan said. "It is a tough thing to come off a long weekend and play a Monday game. Hopefully we can keep it up. It's a big week for us, as we have five games this week due to rainouts."
