DALTON, Mass. – Julia McComish struck out 10 and allowed just one earned run Wednesday in leading the Wahconah softball team to a 3-2 win over Bellingham in the Division 4 State Tournament Round of 16.

McComish did not allow a walk and scattered eight hits in the complete-game effort to send Wahconah into the state quarter-finals against either No. 2 Hampshire Regional or Sandwich, who play on Thursday afternoon.

McComish helped her cause by going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Madison McCarthy hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the bottom of the second and an RBI single to plate Kenadi Arnhold with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth.

McCarthy then scored on Mariah Barnes’ RBI single to give Wahconah a 3-1 lead.

McComish then made that lead stand up, pitching around two base hits in the top of the seventh and leaving the potential tying run at third base.

Seventh-seeded Wahconah improved to 18-4 and advanced to the Elite 8 for the first time since 2022, when it reached the D4 semi-finals.
