CHESHIRE, Mass. – The Hoosac Valley athletics department has announced the hiring of Matt Larabee as the next varsity boys basketball coach at the school.

Larabee will replace longtime coach Bill Robinson, who decided to retire following his second stint on the Hurricane sidelines.

Previously, Larabee worked alongside Robinson as the junior varsity head coach since 2012.

Larabee brings a wealth of experience and familiarity to the Hoosac Valley program. Aside from
serving as the JV coach for the past 12 seasons, he has spent an additional 11 years in various roles within the program. He has coached football and lacrosse as well for the Hurricanes.

“Matt has been a staple within the Hurricane basketball program for years and has been an important part of the coaching community within Cheshire/Adams,” Hoosac Valley Athletic Director Jeff Puleri said. “I am confident in his leadership to continue on the path that Coach Robinson laid out for several years to come.”

Larabee will inherit a program that has been successful on both state and regional levels. Just
two years ago, the Hurricanes lost in the MIAA Division VIII State Finals. That same year, they
captured the Western Massachusetts Class D Championship.

The Hurricanes will have their hands full with the recent move to the Berkshire County league this winter. Hoosac Valley will see local foes Wahconah, Pittsfield, Taconic, Monument Mountain, and rival Drury twice throughout the season.

Larabee and the Hurricanes are slated to begin practicing on Dec. 1 and their first game is set
for Dec. 11 at home against Lenox.
