PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Sophomore forward Brianna Rogers had her best game of the year, recording a big double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds, but a poor defensive effort in the second half cost the Taconic girls' basketball team in a 53-44 home loss to Cathedral on Saturday.

Matt Mickle's squad led by two points at halftime, but gave up 34 points in the second half to drop its fifth game in a row. The Braves (2-16) have been right there in their past five contests, losing by an average of 7.2 points per game. Saturday's game marked the eighth time this year Taconic has lost by at least nine points or less.

Hannah Fitzgerald was a big reason why the Braves come up short on Saturday. She netted a game-high 18 points for Cathedral, while teammate Rebecca Marsh (two 3-pointers) was right behind her with 17 points of her own.

Junior Angela O'Neil chipped in with 15 points for Taconic. Classmate Kirsten McNeice helped out with four points and a team-high four assists.

The Braves next play at Wahconah at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
