DALTON, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock girls' basketball team started well and finished even stronger in its game against Wahconah on Thursday night. The Mounties were a little lost somewhere in between, however, allowing 21 points each in the second and third quarters on their way to a 55-43 road loss to the Warriors.

Paul Barrett's club trailed just 8-6 after the first quarter of play, but Wahconah (4-6) earned a 21-7 scoring edge in the second to open up a 16-point lead at the half. The Warriors kept the pressure on with a big offensive push in the third quarter, leaving Greylock (4-5) too far behind even with the Mounties earning a 20-5 scoring edge in the final frame.

The Warriors' Gabby Lavinio scored 16 of her game-high 18 points in the middle two quarters of play. She went a perfect 7 for 7 from the free-throw line on the night, while teammate Katie Dumas also had a solid outing with 16 points. Freshman point guard Lucy Barrett collected 13 points, six rebounds and three assists for Greylock, which also received 10 points and five boards from junior Alex Majetich.

"We didn't recover from Wahconah's scoring outburst in the second quarter and, instead, gave up another 21 points in the third quarter," Barrett said. "We must find our shooting confidence and tighten up on the defensive end if we are to compete with Drury on Monday night.

The Mounties host the Blue Devils at 7 p.m. on Monday.
