CHESHIRE, Mass. -- On Thursday night, Mount Greylock's girls basketball team struggled against Hoosac Valley's defense and scored just two first-quarter points.

Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery, the Mounties flattered Hoosac by stifling their next opponent, Frontier, and holding the Redhawks to four first-quarter points on the way to a 48-34 win on Saturday at the seventh annual Berkshire County Girls Basketball Coaches vs. Cancer Showcase.

The Mounties (8-4) forced eight first-quarter turnovers on the way to a 16-4 lead and never let Frontier back in the game.

"Having a one-hour practice between [Thursday's] Hoosac game and this didn't give us much time to formulate a game plan," Greylock coach Paul Barrett said. "But, yeah, I thought the pressure made a difference to start.

"I knew their guards might struggle with a little bit of pressure, so we did something we haven't done for a while. We got some turnovers. We had some good things happening."

Offensively, the Mounties got the usual good things from Lucy Barrett, who scored a game-high 25 points.

Arianna Walden scored 10 to go with 10 rebounds and a couple of steals. Sarah Stripp had four steals and three assists, and
Jenna Benzinger pulled down 12 rebounds.

The Mounties travel to Lenox on Tuesday night.
